About the Sentencing Academy
Promoting evidence-based sentencing
We are a research and engagement charitable incorporated organisation dedicated to developing understanding of sentencing in England and Wales and informing public debate.
We
- promote evidence-based sentencing and encourage effective sentencing practices that reduce re-offending, provide justice to victims, and promote public confidence;
- collaborate with a diverse range of researchers in the area of sentencing;
- provide a range of resources that explain sentencing practice, highlight key trends and clarify legal terms.
We do this by
- conducting and commissioning original empirical research on sentencing issues and the impact of sentencing;
- producing research reviews of topical sentencing issues;
- authoring evidence-led consultation responses to inform policy and decision-making;
- hosting panels, seminars, and workshops to facilitate discussion and knowledge exchange between researchers, practitioners, the general public, and other key stakeholders.
